Tears

In this piece I used watercolor and Micron pens to create this interpretive work. The focus of this is a little girl kneeling down crying. In the background there is a soldier's leg. I set this piece up so that viewers can interpret the conflict how they see it. This could be a parent in the military leaving/ coming home to a child, a child being taken away, being screamed at, etc…

A Father, Husband, and Soldier

For this piece I used newspaper, MIcron pens, newspaper, and Indian ink. This represents men/women at war who have children and a significant other and the pain they go through due to a loved one fighting at war. The actual painting shows a child hugging her father after his return home from war. I hand wrote the letters in the back which show mailed conversation between the soldier and his family. The letters speak of the soldier being injured to the point of not being able to walk by himself. This shows the conflict many people experience daily.

Renaissance Reborn

For this piece I incorporated different art styles into one piece of conflict with the two styles clashing. Today it seems like everything that was once nice and fancy has been spray painted and covered by graffiti. The graffiti in this piece is shown taking over the renaissance style painting showing conflict of styles over the years. To create this piece I worked with acrylics and spray paint.

Property

In this piece I used watercolor and Micron pens to show the difference between plantation owners house’s and the slaves “house’s”. The sky is the same on both sides showing that we all live in the same environment yet slaves weren’t treated that way. This shows that even though slaves did the work to bring in the money, that's not how they were treated. They were treated like property just like what they lived in.
